Gophers has been in Marquette since 1997 where it has slowly grown and changed in to the bakery you know and love today. Gemma was only 17 when she started at Gophers as a waitress back in 2003. At the time, all of the waitresses were required to have some knowledge of baking, but Gemma had a true passion for it. Slowly, she learned more about baking and traditional European recipes from Patrick and Jackie Gonda, the owners at the time. As the years passed, she expanded her baking knowledge, taking on new and bigger challenges as she went.
In 2010 Gemma married her high school sweetheart, Eric. They took over ownership of the bakery in 2014, and they've worked together to build it to what it is today. They work hard on all they do and strive for quality in every sweet creation that comes from their kitchen.
